While many spices come from the fruit of plants, few have as fruity or enticing an aroma as cardamom. Cardamom seeds are found in an oval-shaped pod, the fruit of the plant, and are generally between a quarter of an inch and an inch long. They have a very strong flavor, with hints of lemon and floral notes.

Cardamom use dates back to 4th century BC, when natives of India used it for medicinal purposes. Today, it is more comonly used in teas and baked goods.
