Its bold red color is completely natural and comes from red volcanic Hawaiian clay called Alaea that lined ancient Hawaiian salt ponds. The salt water naturally mixes with the clay giving the salt its incredible color when harvested. Native Hawaiians used Alaea Salt to preserve and season their local foods and this tradition is still continued today.
Hawaiian Red Salt Uses:
This salt is a wonderful addition to traditional Hawaiian dishes like smoked kalua pig or poke. Cooks love this salt for its earthy and versatile flavor. Use it for marinades, seafood and fish, especially salmon. It can even be used for desserts like salted caramel and ice cream.
